Privacy Policy

Etude collects no personal data. Every tool on this site, and the Etude browser extension, run entirely in your browser. There are no accounts, no servers, no tracking, and no analytics.

What Etude is

Etude is a small suite of offline, browser-based tools for practicing musicians, including the Looper (a web app) and the Etude Looper browser extension for online video. This policy covers the website at onurcelep.github.io/etude and the browser extension.

Data we collect

None. Etude does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Specifically, it does not:

• require an account or a login;
• send your audio, video, or files to any server (all processing happens locally in your browser);
• use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising, or third-party trackers;
• read or store your browsing history;
• collect clicks, keystrokes, or any behavioral data.

Data stored on your device

To remember your preferences, Etude saves a few things locally on your device only, using your browser's own storage (localStorage and IndexedDB). This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to us or anyone else:

• your theme (light or dark) and language choice;
• your saved practice sessions and named A-B loops, including their settings;
• for the extension, your per-video loops and control settings.

You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data or removing the extension.

The browser extension

The Etude Looper extension adds a practice panel to YouTube video pages so you can transpose, change speed without changing pitch, and set A-B loops. To do this it requests:

• storage — to save your loops and settings locally, as described above;
• access to youtube.com — so it can attach its audio engine to the video you are watching and show its controls. This access is limited to YouTube, the only site the extension supports.

All audio is processed locally in real time. The extension transmits nothing, and includes no remote code: all of its code, including the WebAssembly audio engine, ships inside the extension package.

Third-party links

Etude contains optional links to external sites, such as its source code on GitHub and a "buy me a coffee" page. If you follow those links, the destination site's own privacy policy applies. Etude itself does not share any data with them.

Children

Etude is a general-audience tool that collects no data, and is safe for use by anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
